Donald Trump: ‘This is not a bad thing’ for the American people
- July 9, 2021
Donald Trump on Thursday said he believes that “the American people” will take a different view on the Rio Olympics, saying it’s time for the world to take a stand against corruption in the United States.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Trump said he wants the Rio Games to go ahead despite the corruption allegations against Trump and the United Kingdom’s Prince Charles.
Trump was speaking at the annual gathering of the conservative group the American Conservative Union (ACU), a group he once founded.
Trump also said that the Olympics is an example of how “if you’re willing to fight, and fight hard, and not just because you’re rich, or because you like the way you look, or your race, or whatever you’re going to say, you can win.
But it doesn’t mean you win.”
He said, “I’m proud to say I’m a warrior, because I fight for what I believe in.
I fight so hard for what is right.
And we will win.
We will win.”
The former reality TV star and businessman said that he was going to continue to fight against the corruption that has tainted the Olympic process.
“If I have a right to go into the Olympics and do what I’m doing, I’m going to fight for the right to do that,” Trump said.
“If I’m willing to go, I am going to go.”
Trump added that the corrupt practices in the Olympics have cost the country billions of dollars.
“They’re running the Olympics like they’re a real estate business.
They’re running it like they are a casino.
They have no ethics whatsoever,” he said.”
So if they want to change the rules, they’ll change the rule.
But the people who will lose out the most are the people that don’t know the rules and don’t have the courage to fight.”
Trump said the Olympic Movement was going through an “embarrassment.”
“It’s disgraceful.
It’s a disgrace.
It is a disgrace,” Trump told CPAC attendees.
“We have the best athletes in the world, the greatest athletes in history, but they’re taking advantage of the system.
It should be changed.
It must be changed.”
The Trump campaign released a statement on Thursday saying that Trump believes the U.S. should boycott the Olympics.
The statement said that “it is imperative that Americans and world leaders make clear to President Trump and others that they will not be supporting the Rio Summer Games and that they are taking a stand for the rule of law and freedom.”
